Defy my Defining Angst part one

Fatalistic Angst.

In my opinion, the most despicable brand of angst ever to ravage the Pretties of the universe. Characterized by such lines as "It's all I have left," and "I must salvage my soul," Fatalistic Angst is both the bane of fangirl's existence and the playground of our existentialist minds.

There is something horrifically repulsive yet tragically appealing about a man so lost in his own self-loathing that he can no longer even recognize it as such. When his mind is so warped that all that remains is a freakish sense of duty and an absolute lack of people skills, it is truely time to put an end to his (as well as our own) misery and off him.

There is of course the ever-popular attitude that accompanies the Fatalists of "I will survive everything I ever do through sheer force of will, only to later be brought down by something so mundane as a cold or a car crash in which I was actually belted inside the car and not desperately clinging by my sword to the roof. And I will be a ridiculously emotionless jackass the entire time, make no mistake."

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate this go-get-'em attitude as much as the next fangirl, in fact I revel in it for the five minutes a day that I can actually stand the thought of such people. It is a very powerful form of angst, there can be no denying of that fact. Really, because of it's power and painfully easy ability to be manipulated, Fatalistic Angst is a perfect beginner angst. Fanfiction authors can ease themselves into the delicacies of more intricate angst by first bashing their skulls in with the tedium that is Fatalistic Angst.

My warning: Be careful with how you treat your angst. If you lose control of it, it can easily morph into some form of the Fatalistic. It can happen unexpectedly, with the most chipper of deliciously angsty characters. All you can do is take care and respect the Power of Angst.
